Hireath

“Hiraeth” (“Homesick”) is an inclusive dance performance directed by Jemima Hoadley(Great Britain). “Hiraeth” is a Welsh word, which expresses the idea of homesickness. Words describing the idea of homesickness also exist in several other languages, proving the phenomenon to be universal.
The actors on the stage are telling about the thorny path of Armenian Genocide survivors, yearning for the lost homeland, and the efforts to regain their own identity in the new country.

History of the piece:
Candoco artist Jemima Hoadley visited Yerevan, Armenia for staging the new inclusive performance with Small Theater.

The official premiere of the performance took place within the main program of the Highfest International Performing Arts Festival, on 3rd October 2015, at Small Theater. Part of the performance was also included in the Grand Opening Ceremony of the Festival.

This performance is staged in the scope of the British Council’s “Unlimited: Making the Right Moves” project. The main objective of the project is to establish the first inclusive Dance Company in Armenia, consisting of disabled and non-disabled dancers, in cooperation with the renowned Candoco dance company from the United Kingdom.
